Our department was founded initially in 1965 as Department of Oceanography and Department of Botany in 1971. To integrate teaching resources, and enhance faculty expertise, our university merged the Marine Biology group of the Department of Oceanography and the Department of Botany in 1987 to form the Department of Biology. The department was renamed to its current name Department of Life Science in 2004. Over the past 50 years, our alumni have distinguished themselves in a wide range of endeavors and make important contribution to basic science, medicine, education, environmental science.
Our university is located near YangMingShan National Park, which is special in terms of geographical location and climate to provide precious natural and ecological resources with great values in phytochemical study and environmental change research, as well as conservation biology exploration. We are committed to interdisciplinary learning, while ensure students to acquire critical thinking and problem solving skills during the training.
We also provide exchange programs to let students to study abroad at one of our school's partner institutions. In this way, the Department of Life Science aims to provide superb training for students in health-related professions or careers incorporating conservation biology, ecology, and environmental and resource management.
Post-baccalaureate apprenticeships and graduate study Graduates may apply for graduate schools or for research technician positions, during which they will also be trained and prepared for careers in the life science.
