Introduction 學系介紹

The Department of Political Science at Chinese Culture University is one of the first political science departments in Taiwan with a long history; its faculty includes Ph.D.s from the U.S., U.K., Germany, Japan, and various prestigious universities in Taiwan, and has a diverse background. The Department aims to cultivate students' enthusiasm for public affairs, sensitivity to political issues, and the ability to think and judge rationally about political issues.

The Department emphasizes the integration of political theory and practice, and offers a political internship program in the senior year, which allows students to work in the Legislative Yuan, the legislature, public relations firms, and non-profit organizations. Graduates will go on to work as civil servants, public opinion representatives or their assistants, NGOs, think tank researchers, pollsters, media, public relations, etc.

  1. Diversified faculty: The faculty includes Ph.D.s from the U.S., U.K., Germany, Japan, and various prestigious universities in Taiwan, with diverse backgrounds that help broaden students' international perspectives.
  2. The Department also emphasizes the cultivation of multiple interests and abilities, including thinking skills, communication and coordination, problem solving, and critical thinking skills, which are useful in any industry or field. The department's curriculum is designed to span multiple disciplines, including sociology, economics, anthropology, and psychology, and to emphasize cross-disciplinary learning in areas such as marketing and communication, public relations, technology, and the environment.
  3. Emphasis on the integration of theory and practice: the political internship course is offered in the senior year, and students are arranged to work in the Legislative Yuan, parliament, public relations companies and non-profit organizations.

The program is divided into a core of compulsory courses and four major areas of study, which emphasize the building of fundamental concepts and theories, and the integration of theoretical and practical courses.

  • Compulsory core curriculum:
    Political Science, Constitution and Government of the Republic of China, Statistical Methods in Social Science, Research Methods in Political Science, Selected English Readings in Political Science, Comparative Government and Politics, International Politics, International Political Economy, Administrative Science, Administrative Law, Public Policy, Introduction to Chinese Political Thought, Introduction to Western Political Thought, Political Economy, Political Sociology.
  • Comparative Politics:
    Political Parties and Elections, Comparative Constitutional Law, U.S. Government and Politics, Japanese Government and Politics, French Government and Politics, National Development Theory and Practice, and Mainland China Studies.
  • International Relations:
    Western Diplomatic History, U.S. Government and Politics, Studies in U.S.-China-Taiwan Relations, Japanese Politics in the New Century, Islamic and Middle Eastern Politics, and the European Union and Globalization.
  • Public Administration:
    Public-Private Partnerships, Political Internships, Local Government and Management, Visualizing Political Data, Public Relations and Lobbying.
  • Cross-disciplinary:
    Introduction to Democratic Politics, Contemporary Political Thought, Politics and Literature, Political Psychology, Human Rights and Politics.

Future 未來發展

  • Further studies:
    Students may enroll in master’s and doctoral programs in political science, diplomacy, public administration, cross-strait relations and mainland studies, national development, public affairs, and administrative research institutes, or pursue further studies in relevant foreign research institutes.
  • Career:
    Take the civil service entrance examination and the diplomatic service examination, or work as an assistant to a congressman or a county or city councilor, a political party administrator, a research assistant at a think tank, a public relations officer, a political communicator, or a reporter.

Cooperation Project 實習與產學合作

The Department of Political Science offers the “Political Internship} course in the fourth year of college. Through this course, students can gain a practical understanding of the operation of various organizations related to political operations, their organizational profiles, and their impacts.

Through actual participation in the operation of various organizations, students will be able to have a preliminary understanding of the nature of work and their own aptitudes when they choose to work in the future. Through the internship experience, students will be able to prove the relevance of classroom knowledge and political practice. The internship organizations related to this course can be broadly categorized into several areas:

  • Office of Public Opinion Representative: Office of Legislative Councilor, Office of County and City Councilor, etc.
  • Party Organizations: KMT Party Headquarters, DPP Party Headquarters, KMT County and City Party Headquarters, and DPP County and City Party Headquarters, etc.
  • Public Relations Firms: Election-related public relations firms, polling firms, etc.
  • Non-profit organizations: The Public Supervisory Union, etc.
