The Master's program and undergraduate program of the Department of Geography were established in the 1962 and 1963, respectively, while the doctoral program was founded in 1967. Over the past 50 years, we have nurtured numerous outstanding professionals in the field of geography.
Our alumni have engaged in research, teaching, and work at various levels of educational institutions, related organizations, as well as in the geographic information industry, land and environmental planning, regional development, and more. They have demonstrated excellence in areas such as environmental conservation and impact assessment, showcasing the value of both theoretical and applied geography. Their contributions have also played a significant role in aiding the country's construction and development.
Teaching Characteristics 教學特色
Our department has always adhered to the educational principle of emphasizing both quality and quantity, focusing on natural environment analysis, exploring human-environment relationships, delving into regional development, and emphasizing the practical applications of geography. We also place a strong emphasis on providing students with hands-on fieldwork experience, allowing theories and practical applications to mutually validate each other.
Our primary goals are as follows:
- Cultivating geospatial professionals who are adept in both theory and practice.
- Training individuals with outstanding technological and professional competitiveness.

Graduates of our department have engaged not only in teaching at secondary schools and higher education institutions but have also pursued various careers. These include roles in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing and aerial photo interpretation, Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) ,digital mapping, environmental and landscape planning, urban and community planning, environmental conservation, leisure tourism, and land use planning.
Furthermore, graduates can also pursue further studies in relevant domestic and international research institutes, such as geography departments, urban planning institutes, and institutes related to environmental and earth sciences.
Scholarships 獎學金
We provide Hwa-Kang Scholarship for the top 3 undergraduate students in class per semester, as well as the outstanding students scholarship for the graduate students.

The department provides opportunities for students to participate in internships with businesses during their studies, assisting them in bridging the gap to the future job market. The potential employment areas for graduates include:
