Introduction 學系介紹

The founder of the Department of Chinese Drama, the first department of Chinese Culture University, is Zhang Qi-yun(張其昀), who devotes to carry forward Chinese quintessence and Improve the academic research spirit of Chinese opera. The department combines traditional theatrical elements such as Chinese opera singing and traditional physical performances, with Western contemporary theatre training of directors and screenwriters. Its objective is to cultivate comprehensive theater artists who are capable of merging Chinese and Western cultures.

The Department proposes the one of a kind theater teaching system in Taiwan, because the consideration is given to both inheriting tradition Chinese drama and adapting to the situation of current theater market.

1. Emphasizing the physical training of actors.
2. The courses are comprised of both Chinese traditional drama and western modern theater.
3. The courses are highly specialized and professional.
4. Students have high frequency performance activities which bring them the practical skills in theater.

The department's instruction is divided into three main specialized groups: Performance, Playwriting and Directing. It aims to cultivate students into professional practitioners capable of developing their talents across various theatrical genres in the future.

• CUSTUME AND MAKE-UP OF CHINESE THEATRE, INTRODUCTION TO DIRECTING, VOICE TRAINING AND PERFORMANCE, INTRODUCTION TO WESTERN PLAYS, INTRODUCTION TO CHINESE PLAYS, CHINESE DRAMA AND THEATRE HISTORY, PLAY PRODUCTION (1)(2)(3), THEORY OF CHINESE DRAMA, LEARNING ENGLISH FROM DRAMA, THEORIES OF DRAMA, SPECIAL TOPICS IN CREATIVITY AND CULTURAL INDUSTRIES, CONTEMPORARY CHINESE TRADITIONAL DRAMA.

• The current situation is as follows:
  1. After graduation, students can choose to apply for further studies in domestic or international drama and art-related graduate programs, or pursue studies in areas that align with their personal interests.
  2. They can also choose to enter government/public service positions They can participate in civil service examinations or promote artistic and cultural activities at city cultural centers around the nation
  3. They also have the option to start their own businesses or ventures They can establish a media company, form their own theater group, or set up a performance studio.
  4. On-stage and Off-stage Professionals There are numerous outstanding individuals in various fields such as acting, executive production (including film, television, traditional Chinese opera, drama, etc.), journalism, communication, advertising, styling, hosting, education, and more.

Scholarships 獎學金

The "Liao Ping-Chang Scholarship for Needy Students" awards 1 to 3 students each academic year, with each recipient receiving 30,000 NT dollars.
