The Department of Japanese Language and Literature at Chinese Culture University was established in 1963, making it the earliest such department among domestic universities in Taiwan.
The department places great emphasis on international exchanges and stresses the learning and practical application of the Japanese language. In response to changing times, it offers many unique courses. Over the past 60 years, it has nurtured numerous talents for Japanese-Taiwanese exchanges.
Teaching Characteristics 教學特色
- Basic and Advanced Skills Training Course This course cultivates students' basic and advanced abilities in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating in Japanese.
- Professional Practical Skills Training Course Students can select courses from specialized fields like literature, culture, tourism, business, and translation based on their interests, fostering professional practical skills.
- Industry-Academia Collaboration Course In collaboration with domestic and international industry, government, and academic institutions, this course offers students both local and overseas internship opportunities.

In addition to nurturing the five linguistic skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating, our department further fosters global-minded and diversely skilled talents through a rich variety of interdisciplinary specialties and modular courses, as well as through international exchange opportunities.
Our departmental curriculum is structured as follows: the first and second years focus on basic and advanced Japanese language courses. In the third and fourth years, the curriculum is employment-oriented, offering specialized and practical courses in three major areas: Japanese Language and Culture, Japanese Tourism and Culture, and Japanese Business and Trade. Concurrently, by integrating courses from our school's Business, Management, and Tourism modules, we aim to develop a broad range of skills in our students.
Future 未來發展
- Further Studies: Graduates can pursue postgraduate studies in related institutes at major universities both domestically and internationally. Our department has signed an agreement with Meiji University in Japan to allow our graduates to study in their master's program after being recommended and passing an interview.
- Employment: After graduation, our students have a variety of career paths. These can be broadly categorized into five primary roles:
- Educators: After completing the education program at our school and undergoing practical training, students who pass the relevant exams are qualified to become high school Japanese language teachers.
- Tourism Professionals: Roles include tour guides, hotel staff, or cabin crew members, among others.
- Business and Trade Personnel: Engage in business and trade roles at Japanese commercial firms both in Taiwan and abroad.
- Translators: Work as interpreters or translators for publishing houses or commercial firms.
- Public Servants: Roles such as consular staff in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, personnel stationed abroad for the News Bureau, or the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Scholarships 獎學金
- National Foreign Language Competition or Performance Scholarships: Several recipients each semester for those ranked within the top three; NT$5,000-10,000 per recipient.
- Yokosuka Lions Club (Japan) Scholarship: One recipient annually; NT$2,820 per recipient.
- Yano Tsugutaka Scholarship: One recipient annually; NT$4,500 per recipient.
- Department of Japanese Language Merit-Based Scholarship: Several recipients each academic year; NT$5,000 per recipient.
- Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 1 Scholarship: Ten recipients annually; NT$5,000 per recipient.
- Dr. Nakano Yoshinosuke Scholarship: Two recipients annually; NT$2,500 per recipient.
- Mr. Song Yuelun Scholarship: Several recipients annually; ranging from NT$5,000 to NT$20,000 per recipient.
Cooperation Project 實習與產學合作
Our department offers an Applied Japanese Industry Internship course, collaborating with well-known enterprises both domestically and internationally to provide students with hands-on corporate experience.
For instance, students can undertake internships at local small and medium-sized enterprises during the academic term or travel to Japan for overseas workplace internships during the summer break.
